Breweries
Four breweries opened their doors in 1997 that are still in business today in the Tri-Cities region: Atomic Ale Brewpub & Eatery (Richland), Ice Harbor Brewing (Kennewick), Rattlesnake Mountain Brewing Company (Richland), and Snipes Mountain Brewery (Sunnyside). There are now over two dozen breweries and brewpubs in the Tri-Cities and other nearby communities combined.
Credit can be given to Bert Grant who founded the Yakima Brewing & Malting Co. in 1982 which became the first modern independent microbrewery in the Pacific Northwest. For more information about Bert Grant, read The Making of a Classic: Bert Grant and the Birth of American IPA.

Bale Breaker Brewing
Bale Breaker Brewing is located in the middle of the
Loftus Ranch hop field no. 41 in the Moxee/Yakima area and produces several beers. They are the only brewery of their size to grow all of their own hops and their taproom shows that off. Food is available from a rotating cast of food trucks.
Shorthead Brewing
Shorthead Brewing is a brewery located in Tieton WA (12 miles from Yakima) that makes beer specifically for the blue collar worker. We believe that working men and women deserve a quality drink after a long day on the job, and our beers are perfect for winding down at the end of the day.

Single Hill Brewing Company is now a burgeoning brewery in downtown Yakima that celebrates quality craft beer, community development and central Washington's unique agricultural heritage.
2024 Washington Beer Awards
Organizers of the Washington Beer Awards announced the winners for the 2024 competition. Some 170 Washington craft breweries entered 1,219 beers in the competition, which featured blind judging. Winners were selected in more than 60 categories.
Several Southeast Washington breweries won medals:
- Bale Breaker Brewing Co. in Yakima won silver for its Imperial or Double India Pale Ale, Bottomcutter IPA.
- Ice Harbor Brewing in Kennewick won bronze for its American-style Brown & Black Ale, Bruneau Brown, and gold for its Fruit Wheat Beer, Tangerine Hefeweizen.
- Single Hill Brewing Co. in Yakima won gold for its American-style Pilsner, Adams Pils, gold for its Contemporary American-style Pilsner, Super Delicious, bronze for its "Other" American-style Lager, Flight Cancelled, silver for its American-style Strong Pale Ale, Eastside, and first for its Imperial or Double India Pale Ale, Mind Plant. Single Hill was also named Washington's Large Brewery of the Year.
- Varietal Beer Co. of Sunnyside won silver for its American Style Light Lager, Moxee Light, and silver for its Cream Ale, Two Wolves.
- White Bluffs Brewing in Richland won gold in the Robust Porters category for its Shadows of Temptation, silver in the Rye and American Wheat Beers category for its Rock N Brown, silver in the Belgian Strong & Abbey Ales category for its Monking Around and bronze in the Juicy or Hazy Imperial or Double India Pale Ales category for its Super NOG (Nectar of the Gods).

Tri-Cities: Three Rivers Craft Brews & Bacon Fest - February
The annual Craft Brews & Bacon Festival takes place in February at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick. The festival includes microbrew tasting and live entertainment, with complimentary food provided by area restaurants and caterers, who will each be competing for the best bacon dish of the night. Wine also will be available.
Walla Walla Brewfest - February

Moxee Hop Festival - August
The East Valley Community Enhancement Association and the City of Moxee sponsor the annual three day Moxee Hop Festival during August that has become a great local tradition to celebrate the Harvesting of the Hop. Events include live music, beer garden, food and craft vendors, breakfast in the park, kids games, and the coronation of the Hop Festival Royalty candidates.
Yakima Fresh Hop Ale Festival - October
At the annual Fresh Hop Ale Festival, you can expect over 3,000 enthusiastic aficionados of both fine craft beer and Allied Arts having a marvelous time in downtown Yakima. All proceeds benefit Allied Arts of Yakima.
